How do you feel about this? What is your reaction? Does this sound like good news or bad news, are you keen to hear/read this or not?
You may be surprised to realise that many Christians aren’t very enthusiastic. This is no different to the time of his first coming which had also been foretold for hundreds of years before.
The Book of Matthew Chapter 2 Verse 3 tells us that;
When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
It seems the Jews of the time weren’t so enthusiastic either.
Magi, travelling from the East, had stopped in to ask Herod where the one who had been born king of the Jews was?
As we know, he was disturbed by this so King Herod called together the People’s chief priests and teachers of the law and asked them where the Messiah was to be born? In Bethlehem, they responded, citing what the Prophet had written. However, nothing in Scripture shows these men grabbing for their donkeys, shrieking wait for me and heading out after the Magi!
A few, the Magi, Simeon and Anna had recognised the signs of His coming but the religious leaders of the day, although they knew what was written, were not very enthusiastic about what this would mean.
It isn’t very different now. Throughout the gospels, Jesus repeatedly tells us of the signs of his coming again and warns us not to be deceived.
Later in Matthew chapter 16 verse two and three
Jesus says to the religious leaders of the day, “When evening comes, you say, it will be fair weather, for the sky is red,” and in the morning, “Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.” You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the sign of the times.”
So then, it seems that interpreting the sign of the times is something that we are called to do.
Sadly, many today are more concerned with signs and wonders not prophecy akin to his Second Coming. This is very much in keeping with the generation of that past time.
I’d like to add that we are to expect first, the coming of the Antichrist who is going to perform those sought after signs and wonders and will fool many.
In the mighty words of Jesus Christ, Do Not Be Deceived!
