Do You Think I’m Joking?

Recently, whilst looking at the concept of sin and how we react to temptation, I was reading the book of Genesis and taking a look at Lot’s journey and how he first viewed from a distance the city of Sodom (Genesis 13:10), then some time later pitched his tent near to Sodom, (Genesis 13:12) and the next time we encounter him he is sitting within the city gates! (Genesis 19:1) So often we catch a glimpse of something that looks enticing and we find ourselves edging closer and closer until…….

However, as I read on, the following verses spoke so loudly to me and the nudge to put pen to paper, so to speak, was tangible once more.

Genesis chapter 19 versus 12 to 14

12 The two men said to Lot, “do you have anyone else here – sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here,13 because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great that he has sent us destroy it.”

14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, “Hurry and get out of this place, because the Lord is about to destroy the city! But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

I truly believe that we are in the last of the last days for many reasons but predominantly because biblical prophecy is being fulfilled in front of our very eyes! Therefore, the sense of urgency that I feel to share the good news of the gospel only increases as I sense, amongst other things, that the loss of the right to freedom of speech is heading our way.

Many of us have unsaved family, friends and colleagues who, as we reach out to share the salvation that we have found, don’t take our message seriously. Indeed many, as Lot experienced, seem to think that we are joking! How tragic it is in these current times that, to some, the message of the gospel has become a joke?

To me the tragedy goes further and in my experience many of my Christian brothers and sisters seem to be under the very deception that Jesus warned us repeatedly of. They appear to be blind to the signs of the times that we are living in!

Turning away the biblical word of God, they seek and prioritise ‘experience’ and run after signs and wonders, again despite the warning words of our Lord. All this is in timely preparation for the coming of the counterfeit Antichrist who will be only too happy to deliver in abundance what they are looking for.

Sadly, there is absolutely nothing humorous about this!

Lord I pray, give them eyes to see.

God bless you all.
