Fellowship and Focus

I consider myself a good driver but I must confess that, although our vehicle has adaptations, I haven’t felt that my reactions have been swift enough recently to warrant getting behind the wheel.
However, my husband would say that my verbal reactions are spot on and whether in the front or rear passenger seat, I obviously still consider myself co-pilot!
I must confess that this is true up to a point but having taken a wrong turn in Devon, we found ourselves travelling along a hilly, windy and single track road, heading for the coast on probably the longest route possible!
Given the potential for rounding a bend and coming face to face with another vehicle, the two of us were concentrating on the road ahead, at least as much of it is as was practically visible.
But, then we rounded a bend and instead of coming face to face with another vehicle, we came to a break in the hedgerow with an absolutely glorious view of the distant blue sea, off to our left hand side.
“Look at that view”, I crowed, “It’s absolutely breath taking”! It quite took my breath away but as I turned back to my husband to extol the beauty viewed, I realised that I alone had enjoyed the panoramic spectacle. My husband’s profile hadn’t changed, as he had, absolutely rightly, kept his eyes firmly on the road ahead. I found him unmoved, eyes still facing resolutely ahead and realised that although I had laid down my co-pilot duties, he had upheld his duty as driver for us and for anyone travelling in the opposite direction!
I sat back in my seat and pondered what the bible had to say about this:-
Book of Proverbs Chapter 4 Verse 24 and 25
Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.
Ponder the path of your feet;
then all your ways will be sure.
I mulled these scriptures over and I realised that, on a much wider spectrum of my life, for all my self-appointed co-pilot roles and audible opinions, actually, I am able to relax, knowing that I am in the safe hands of a bible believing, spirit led and God fearing man who quietly steers the ship and ensures that under his leadership, we both move forward in the right direction, following Jesus.
However, I am very aware that many of my fellow saints are walking singly or against the beliefs of much loved husbands and wives. An uphill challenge to be sure but the fellowship of the Holy Spirit ensures that we are never alone in our walk. However, we all absolutely need the fellowship of our brethren and thus the individual relationship with our Lord leads to a corporate and social outcome. The Bible gives us scripture to follow;
Book of Acts Chapter 2 Verse 42 ESV
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Book of Hebrews Chapter 10 Verses 24 and 25
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

We are Christian soldiers and we fight as a battalion, holding each other up if we grow tired and raising our spiritual shields together to form a protective barrier around us. So, whilst we all have an individual path to walk, we walk, not in isolation but with hearts and minds joined together in the love of Christ.
